PRIVATE SPEEDBOAT RENTAL

FAQ

PRIVATE SPEEDBOAT RENTAL & KOH PHI PHI

Our office is located in Phi Phi Island and all our trips start and finish in the main pier in Phi Phi Island, Tonsai Pier. We do not pick up from Krabi or Phuket, as it will be very financially demanding. The mainland is two hours away by a ferry, and the pick up by private speedboat would be more expensive than the whole tour of Phi Phi. If you are staying in Phuket or Krabi please contact us here and we can offer you other packages.

Please check the ferry schedules here. Ferries and speedboat transfers are running regularly all year round. You can also ask your hotel to organize pick and drop-off the port.

Yes. As long as you start early, you can leave the island after the trip. The last ferry to Krabi, Phuket, and Koh Lanta is at 15.30. You can check out from your hotel and leave your luggage in our office if you need it. We are only 2 minutes’ walk from the main port.

If you are planning on not staying in Phi Phi Island overnight, then you can book a half-day trip only. You won’t be able to complete the 7h one day trip unless you stay in Phi Phi Island minimum one night.

Please contact us in case you don’t want to stay in Koh Phi Phi overnight, and we will check for you the possibility. The boat schedules change, depending on the season.

However, we recommend staying in Koh Phi Phi at least a couple of nights, as it’s a stunning place, and there are many things to see and do.

We are very flexible and in case of bad weather, we will reschedule or postpone the trip if possible. If there is rain before your trip is due to start we can reschedule for another day if that suits you or wait for the rain to stop.

Koh Phi Phi has a very good climate, and the rain rarely lasts for more than an hour.

If there is rain during your trip then there is nothing much we can do about it. The rain doesn’t usually last very long and unless there is some monsoon storm you can just continue the trip. All our boats have a roof covered to protect you from the sun and from the rain.

We can not control the weather, but as mentioned before, the rain doesn’t usually last for more than an hour. If it starts raining before you leave, you can reschedule, or postpone. However, once you are on the boat, we can’t provide any kind of refund or change.

If you are not sure what time to start, please contact us, and we can discuss the possibilities. We always review all out bookings 24 before the tour starts and check for weather, waves, and tide and suggest the best time for you to start your trip. If you are planning on booking a one-day trip, you can start in the morning, so example 8 am till 3 pm.

If you prefer to start later, you can plan your trip from 10 am till 5 pm or start later and finish the trip with sunset (start at 11.30-18.30) or finish with swimming with bioluminescent plankton (start 12.30- 19.30). The half-day trip lasts 4 hours and you can start also anytime. We will check the sea conditions and confirm the departure time the day before your tour.

That depends on your preference. Most of our customers book the one-day trip, as it is the complete trip of Phi Phi. During the 7 hours trip, you can explore some great snorkeling locations, and also enjoy some stunning beaches.

Some of our customers prefer to break the trip into two parts, and they book two separate half-day trips. It will be financially more expensive, but it is a nice way of enjoying Koh Phi Phi if you are staying on the island more days. Or maybe you have smaller children or older parents, who get tired easily in the sun and prefer shorter trips.

The sunrise is around 6.30 am and we start running private speedboat trips from 7am onwards.. However, if you choose to start very early the sun doesn’t come out properly till a later bit later, around 8 am.

Yes, you can. You will have to start the trip in time to finish at around 19.30. That means starting at 12.30 for the one-day trip or 15.30 for a half-day trip. The sun goes down around 18.45, and then you will have to wait around watching the sunset till after 7 pm. When it gets dark, you can jump in the water and see the glowing plankton. We do the plankton swimming outside of the Monkey Beach for safety reasons. It is more shallow water in that area.

The bioluminescent plankton is a natural phenomenon, therefore we can not guarantee you 100% how much it will be visible on what day. Some days are more visible and some days less. There is no way of predicting this. Usually around the full moon, is the plankton the least visible, as the moon lights up the sky. But again, if it’s a cloudy evening you can still see it.

You can change the trip as you go, just talk to our guides so they are aware of the time frame, and can organize the route with the captain. If you arrive at Bamboo island, and you love it there, then you can stay as long as you want. It is absolutely up to you. Of course that means you will have less time on other locations. Please note the program depends mostly on the weather and wind of the day.

The only changes you can’t do is to drive back and forth. Once you leave one place, the captain will not be returning there, as the boat follows a circular route.

  • SPEED

Speedboats are very fast, and you will spend the minimum time between the locations. You can enjoy plenty of time snorkeling, swimming and relaxing on the beaches. To give you an example, the distance between the port and Bamboo Island is around 8km, and it takes almost one hour by long-tail boat. The same journey by speedboat takes around 10-15 minutes. Long-tail boats are great for shorter trips. But if you are planning on the complete tour, then the speedboat is a much better option. With a long-tail boat, you will spend half of the trip just sitting on the boat, getting from A to B.

  • COMFORT

You can comfortably sit inside the boat or at the front of the boat with a lot of space. You can walk around the boat while the boat is anchored. Speedboat is much safer during windy days, compare to traditional long-tail boat.

  • EXPERIENCE

Renting a speedboat is much more of a luxurious way of exploring the island. There is a cool box on the boat with ice to keep your drinks cold. Our crew takes care of you and will prepare some fresh fruit for you during the trip. They will help you or teach you snorkeling if needed, and make sure you are well looked after.

  • GETTING OFF AND ON THE BOAT

For some less mobile customers can be problematic getting on and off the traditional long-tail boat. The boat has a small ladder hanging off the side of the boat, which you have to pull yourself up to get to the boat. On the speedboat, we have two back entries with ladders going lower to the water. Also, we always try to park right on the beach whenever is possible for the easiest entry and exit.

Our trips are all-inclusive, so you do not need to bring anything with you, apart from a good mood.

We provide masks and snorkel and life jackets on the boat. There is some seasonal fruit, water, cola, and a cool box with ice. We also provide lunch for a one-day trip (Thai fried rice with chicken or vegetarian option).

All national marine park fees 400THB per person are also included in the price.

You can bring a towel, sunscreen, sunglasses, some snacks or alcoholic drinks if you wish.

We provide lunch for a one-day trip. It is a Thai fried rice with chicken or vegetarian option without meat.

Yes, we provide a cool box with ice, and soft drinks (water and cola). You can bring beers, wine, or any other alcoholic drinks you want. You can drink on the boat.

You will not be able to bring alcoholic drinks on beaches, as it’s not allowed to drink in the national park.

All our guides speak basic English and have an excellent knowledge of local snorkeling and swimming sites.

We own and rent three types/ sizes of a speedboat. For the smaller group, we have a one-engine boat with a capacity maximum of 8 people and a boat crew. We have two different sizes of the two-engine boat. The smaller size has a capacity of up to 18 passengers, and a longer size can comfortably accommodate up to 25 people and guides with a captain. For bigger groups and join trips, we use our three-engine boat, which can easily fit 35+ people.

We always ensure we provide the right size boat for you to make sure you have enough space and comfort to enjoy the trip.

  • 2-8 pax ONE ENGINE BOAT
  • 9-25 pax TWO ENGINE BOAT
  • 26-35 pax THREE ENGINE BOAT

I would suggest booking a half-day trip only if you are not that comfortable on a boat. We can never predict what the sea conditions will be on the day of your trip. Some days the sea is calm, and you don’t even know you are on a boat. Some days the wind is strong, and that can create bigger waves which can make you feel sick.

There is a cheap seasick pill you can take 30 minutes before the trip. They sell it in every shop and pharmacy, and it helps with the motion sickness. Also, the advantage of having a private boat is that you can ask the captain to stay longer on beaches or in the lagoon where the sea is calm even during windy days.

We do not recommend pregnant ladies to go on a speedboat….or any other kind of boat apart from a large ferry. The risk is the ever-changing sea conditions. One minute the sea is calm and one hour later a storm can come. Once the sea gets rough it creates bigger waves, which can make the speedboat ride very uncomfortable. Every time the boat hits the wave it makes a big impact on the whole boat. It is unlikely it will happen, but you can never predict the weather, and it may not be a good idea risking especially in the first few months of pregnancy. However, it is absolutely your decision. If you do want to join a speedboat trip we recommend discussing this with your doctor first.

We have had many customers with children, and they do enjoy our trips very much. However, I probably wouldn’t recommend taking an infant on a speedboat trip…or any boat trip.

The weather can change within an hour in the tropical climate, and the sea can get rough. Saying that you can come back anytime you wish when renting your private boat.

Yes, there are black-tip reef shark, leopard sharks, and if you are very very lucky, you can also spot a whale shark.

Reef sharks are very common, and you have a high chance of spotting a few during snorkeling. You don’t need to worry, they are harmless, and do not attack people. They will swim calmly in the shallow waters on Phi Phi Lay, and also at Shark Point. They are around 1m long.

You can also spot sea turtles and many kinds of colorful fish and coral around Koh Phi Phi.

MORE ABOUT SHARKS IN KOH PHI PHI

  • Strong engines are expensive to run. Unlike a long-tail boat, which doesn’t consume a lot of petrol and oil, speedboats are very expensive to run, especially 2 and 3 engine boats. Most long-tail boats use refurbished motors from small motorbikes. Speedboat engines are specifically designed to run the heavy boat body and a load at a very high speed and must have the horsepower to ensure safety even during bad weather (big waves). We have different types of Yamaha and Suzuki engines on all our boats.
  • The staff. We have professional licensed captains, senior boat boys, and trainees boat boys, and also a guide on the boat.

  • The national park fee is included. The price of our speedboat rental includes 400THB per person for national park fees. That fee is not included when you hire a long-tail boat.

  • Maintenance. Unlike a long-tail boat, which our captain parks at the pier and don’t have to do much more apart from anchoring the boat, the speedboat needs to get cleaned daily. Each evening, when the boat gets back to the port, the staff needs to clean the boat and wash all insides off the saltwater. The outside gets also scrubbed down daily of oils and sprayed as the speedboat parts can easily corrode if not cleaned regularly. The engine has to be checked daily for safety reasons, and all kinds of repairs are very expensive.
